Are you looking to learn how to add rich depth to the surfaces of your ceramic work and expand your decorating skills? In this skill-building workshop, Taylor will demonstrate how she paints colorful, layered surfaces on unfired clay. Students will experiment with underglaze painting using paper resists on bone dry tile. Strategies for harmonious, asymmetrical surface compositions on vessels and choosing color palettes will be touched on throughout the demonstrations.
The instructor will provide laser-cut stencil packets for $30 each, available for purchase on the day, cash preferred. Students are also welcome to bring a pile of newsprint stencils they've cut themselves ahead of the workshop. We encourage you to bring a hake brush if you have one. Class includes six 5×5 practice tiles per student. Students may choose to bring a few of their own pieces for practice if they wish: 2-3 bone dry pieces in white clay, for underglazing.
There will be a 1 hr lunch break, students may bring lunch or take a short ride to pick up lunch from local resturaunts.
All materials provided.
